Well, chalk this one up as a learning experience. It definitely takes way more time to develop a site than 30 days and a couple of hours a day… during the 30 days. It takes time and effort and a lot of determination to get things accomplished.
Not to say that it couldn’t be done.
But I’m definitely going to have to put more time into the project to see it work.
On a better note… I’ve got 13 subscribers. Which means, that with little to no advertising - this isn’t so bad. I’ve got 13 people to make happy. To add content for. To let them tell their friends about the site. There is absolutely potential to the site. I’ve just got to get my ass in gear and finish it.
Get them motivated to advertise the site. Get my ass in gear to add content, get a newsletter going, advertise it (any free way possible), write articles… anything and everything. This will be my next project.
… just get to it.
I’ll keep posting here for the site - tell you what I’ve been up to… have I made any money back from the site. Why not, right?
Well, I’d like to say that this was a success… but it really hasn’t come to fruition at all… not at all. I did manage to get a nice template done, but I didn’t finish my 2nd header image for the admin/members areas. I didn’t get the content up and running yet for the site.  I’ve got ideas - and good plans for the site. But I think I just picked a bad time of year to start this project. Being that it’s close to Christmas - I just didn’t have a lot of time online to actually dedicate to the site.
I’m not giving up with the site. Not by any stretch.
I’ve had feedback from others who have used this super script and I’m really motivated to carry on with the site. I do think I bit off more than I could chew… but that’s all apart of learning right?
So I’m hoping to get back to another 30 day challenge at the beginning of 2007. For now I’m going to spend the next couple of days trying to get as much done as I can… and tell you about it
Thanks for your feedback Will and Vicente, seriously! I think I’ve taken on a project that I love, but is very complicated and requires a LOT of work. Your absolutely right. I’ve not taken the full out lets do this - dedicate all my internet time to this project - which by now would have been easily rockin’ and rollin’. But it’s not. It’s a bit stagnant right now. I have all intention to get the site up and running at least by the end of the 30 days. But you know, this is a pretty big project.
My next project is definitely NOT going to be as profound. Perhaps even focus on one product and then expand on “extras” - promote the affiliate program, etc. Nothing big and brashy like my Beads site is turning out to be.
I just really appreciate all the feedback - it gives me ideas, keeps me motivated and helps when my ideas become way to big and the comments bring me back to reality. Honestly… thank you.
So I’m off back to work…
… NOTHING!!! I don’t recommend doing 30 day projects so close to the Christmas holiday! Too many darn distractions… what’s a girl to do! I’ve managed to write up a little something on my MySpace blog and that’s it.
Ugh…
FRUSTRATION! And it’s totally my fault. I need to really buckle down and get my shit together on this project. Here I am showcasing what a procrastinating… too many things going on outside the Internet world… to get things done.
It’s not like the things on my list are hard (fingers crossed). It’s just a matter of actually sitting down and doing them. Goodness, I need to get a to-do list written up… and in front of me. So I know what needs to be done and when. I almost had a heart-attack when I realized it was already Day 21… like… where did time go?
I’m starting to think that the 30 days… for me…. starting out with nothing - no real lead lists, no real idea on how to generate a leads list, should perhaps have made this more of a 90 day challenge. Why?
- 30 days - To develop the site, add content, develop MySpace site
- 60 days - More content, start to develop lead list - go to forums, guestbooks, blogs
- 90 days - Push through on adSense perhaps look to advertise, build the list
Seriously… I think we need ample time to push through a project like this. So if you’re considering following along the $15k Challenge - just remember that Dan is a professional, with the resources to back up his 30 day push for the challenge. It was one thing that seemed to be overlooked on his site - was how he generated his leads so quickly. Did he have a list? Did he pay for a list?
… maybe I need to look into purchasing a list - and see where it takes me. Or advertise in craft newsletters. But that takes money and right now I’m in the hole finance wise with this site. So I think for now I’ll stick to fixing the templates, working on content and when that’s established enough I’ll start lead generating, which should be an adventure all on it’s own.
I haven’t done anything with my Bead Jewelry site for a few days now… it’s almost like I’ve done the fun stuff of building the template and now it’s just nitty gritty stuff that I’d rather put off for as long as humanly possible.
What’s wrong with me?
I totally see the potential of the site, I’ve got 2 more friends over at MySpace - and that’s through no effort of my own. These are people out there just looking to network and connect… it’s rather cool!
I need to be back on track with this site. I’m looking at tomorrow being the day that I work on the new headers for the admin/members area.
The next day I’ll add content to the existing pages. If I have time I’ll expand on the pages I’ve got listed in the header. I’ll get it together. But realizing that I’m already 2 weeks into this project… I’m a little freaked - I’m not going to reach my $1000 goal for the 30 days. Maybe I should have broken up the challenge into 30 days for content and then 30 days to earn the $1000. LOL. Oh well… onward and upward!
